Cardiovascular disease is a significant complication of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. In fact, people with diabetes are 2 to 3 times more likely to have a cardiac event compared to people without diabetes. Research is critically important to determine the underlying reason for this increased risk and for figuring out how to mitigate it. 

The New England Cardiovascular-Metabolic Fellowship awards are designed to support basic, clinical, or translational research focused on cardiovascular disease in the context of diabetes. Fellows supported with this award must perform their fellowship training in the New England region (defined as Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Connecticut).
